How Rainbow Reins started

Toni created Rainbow Reins after one of her rescue ponies damaged his tail. In order for him to recover Toni cut the tail so it was lighter. The result was some beautiful hair that Toni turned into some Jewelry. Soon other riders saw what she created they wanted to order their own. Thus Rainbow Reins was created. The funds of wich help fund Toni's rescue ponies to this day.

  • COLLECTING & SENDING HORSE HAIR F0R A PROJECT

    A horsehair bracelet is a great keepsake for a horse lover, especially when made from your own horse's tail hairs. I can custom make for you.Collecting Your Horses Tail Hair

    (1) Start with a tail that has been recently washed and combed. It makes your job a little easier. If that's not possible, it's ok, because you can wash the tail hair later.

    (2) Hold the tail up so that you can see the underside of the tail. You should be able to clearly see the dock. The hair grows off the dock is the area that you will be cutting hair from. Cut from the lower part of the dock, this is where the hair is the longest. Always cut from the underside of the tail, close to the tail shaft, this will make the cuts almost invisible.

    (3) Combine the clumps so that the cut ends are together. Tie them with a rubber band or hair tie.You will need at least 2cm in diameter and a length of at least 30cm for a bracelet.If you are sending the hair to me for a project this is as far as you need to go. I recommend that you loosely roll the hair and place it in a Ziploc bag. To help identify the hair write the horses name and your details on the bag including your contact number and return address.

    - Please be sure to add a note with an indication of the design you would like and if ordering a bracelet your wrist size in cm’s thanks.

    Please note if we have to wash and detangle the hair an additional $20.00 fee may be charged.

  • SENDING OTHER PET HAIR OR FEATHERS FOR PROJECTS

    Many of the beautiful items Rainbow Reins makes can be made from other pets hair such as cats. dogs, rabbits and the like or even bird feathers. The items that work for this is our everlasting range which includues pendants, earring and keyrings, buttons and ties pins.

  • POSTING YOUR HAIR FOR A CUSTOM MADE ITEM

    Ensure it is well washed and any hay or grass , dirt is removed. (this means you need to tie it at one end and soak it in warm water and a bit of shampoo and rinse at least twice )- post dry in bag with note of what you would like made- Fill out postal ID clearly- Please use registered post so you can track what you are sending
